NICE HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED AS 2011 SMARTER CITIES CHALLENGE GRANT RECIPIENT
The Smarter Cities Challenge is a competitive grant program awarding $50 million worth of technology and services over the next 3 years to 100 cities around the globe. These grants are designed to address the wide range of financial and infrastructure challenges facing cities today, in areas as diverse as transportation, energy, clean water, education, social services, public safety and economic development.
France, Les Echos, 21.03.11, "Smarter Cities" : IBM choses Nice
« To date, Nice is the only French city which have been chosen by IBM's "Smarter Cities" global challenge. An expertise sponsorship of $50 millions. Among the 24 winners to date are five huge European cities : Bucarest, Eindhoven, Glasgow, Helsinki and the urban commune of Nice Côte d'Azur. Nice will benefit from a technological and service follow-up that worth $250,000 to $400,000 over three years. The challenge which started in 2010 is provided with $50 millions in technological services by IBM fondation. It aims at chosing 100 cities in the world involved in innovating projects in the field of healthcare, transports, water and energy management, security, etc. The project Eco Vallée worked in the favour of Nice since it is followed by IBM : the American company is set up near from there, in its world solution center for Smarter Cities of La Gaude. »
