Sam Palmisano: "We can change the way the world literally works"

As headlines everywhere reminded us of the challenges facing everything from financial markets to food and water supplies, IBM Chairman Sam Palmisano laid out a bold vision of a world equipped by smart technologies and directed by a new vision of leadership to meet the critical needs of our planet.

Palmisano addressed his remarks Thursday (6 November 08) to the Council on Foreign Relations (link resides outside of ibm.com), a leading think tank on global policy and economic issues and publisher of the influential journal, Foreign Affairs.

In the face of global environmental change, geopolitical issues surrounding energy and the realities and dangers of highly complex global financial systems, Palmisano emphasized that these disruptive forces have created an opportunity for creative leadership to make use of new technological and social tools to profoundly and positively affect our planet and our future.

You can learn more about IBM's vision and the potential created by a planet that's not only smaller and more interconnected but increasingly "smarter" by visiting the new Greater IBM community home (one-time registration required).
