In my Grandfather's footsteps

My name is Ana Amelia, I am 32 years old, I have two children living in Brazil in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where I was born and grew up. I work at IBM and that continues a family tradition that began about half a century ago, through my paternal grandfather.

When it comes to the story of how she came to be an IBMer, Brazilian Ana Amelia Amaral de Magalhaes Leite takes the telling seriously.

Ana Amelia's Grandfather
Walace do Amaral

Ana's story begins back in the days of time clocks, dictation equipment, and typewriters. Her late grandfather, Walace do Amaral, began his 26-year career at IBM in Office Products sales, where he achieved nine Hundred Percent Clubs in 20 years before finishing his career in headquarters. Ana Amelia recalls that he worked in buildings named Quitanda, Av Passos, Rio Branco, and Pasteur.

For Walace do Amaral — affectionately called Vovo by his grandchildren — IBM represented more than a place he worked.
