Nigel Beck's liketribe gives tips on local hotspots.

A text message from your mobile phone can put you in touch with an electronic "personal assistant' ready and willing to dispense advice on restaurants and nightlife.

Local hotspots
As IBM alumnus Nigel Beck's young company gains traction, these kinds of instant recommendation will become a common occurrence for those in the know. The company is called "liketribe" — and it's just the kind of creative — and original - venture you might expect from someone whose IBM handiwork ranged from helping launch Websphere Application Server... expanding the company's voice systems offerings... and triggering new ventures as part of the pervasive technology group.

"The idea behind liketribe is to make it really easy to get good advice based on actual experience, that's relevant to where you are and what you want, and gets to know your interests the more you use it," says Nigel. "It's not just adding reams of data to your file, the personal assistant is filtering out the stuff you don't like as it gets to know your interests."
