In 2004, IBM was one of the founding members of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) (link resides outside of ibm.com) and helped develop the EICC Code of Conduct. This initiative assists suppliers by providing a single common code of standards for their work in the electronics industry. IBM accepts the EICC Code of Conduct as an equivalent and alternate to its existing Supplier Conduct Principles.
IBM is participating in a work group, in conjunction with its participation in the EICC, to 1) develop a common approach that companies in the electronics industry can use to encourage their suppliers to inventory their energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and management activity, 2) determine which existing industry, government and nongovernmental organizations offer an opportunity for collaboration in this area, 3) develop a standard approach to query suppliers on their GHG inventories, 4) provide education on GHG inventory and reduction methodologies, and 5) encourage suppliers to pursue energy and manufacturing efficiencies to reduce their GHG emissions.
