IBM Recognized as One of the Top 20 Best Workplaces for CommutersSM

IBM has made the first annual list of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Top 20 Best Workplaces for Commuters from the FORTUNE 500 Companies. The list recognizes FORTUNE 500 companies that provide superior commuter benefits to their employees that help reduce traffic and air pollution. The "best of the best" of these employers make the Top 20 list.

Some of the commuter benefits IBM provides to its employees include commuter information kiosks, transportation coordinators, mobility stations, full service cafeterias, ATM machines, car rental services (pick-up/drop-off), credit union drop boxes and Guaranteed Ride Home program. In addition, IBM has extensive 'e-commute' telework options that make significant contributions to reducing employee commutation while also contributing to the work/life balance of its employees.

To qualify as one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters an employer must provide:

  • at least one primary commuter benefit such as a monthly transit pass subsidy
  • at least three supporting benefits to commuters such as ridesharing or carpool matching, on-site amenities, and secure bicycle parking
  • access for employees to an Emergency/Guaranteed Ride Home program
  • a central point of contact responsible for commuter benefits and for promoting these benefits to employees
