IBM and its Enterprise Systems Group was selected to receive Cinergy Corporation's overall Supplier Environmental Excellence Award for 2000.
Cinergy, one of the leading diversified energy companies in the U.S., recognized IBM for "the comprehensive nature of its environmental programs,
superb auditing programs, extensive environmental goals and management commitment." Cinergy established this award program to recognize its suppliers
for their environmental excellence in accordance with the company's own environmental leadership pledge. The company donated $1000 to the World
Wildlife Fund in recognition of its award to IBM.
Two other companies also received Supplier Environmental Excellence Awards from Cinergy. Mettiki Coal from Oakland, Maryland received an honorable
mention for its natural resources stewardship programs at its Alliance Coal facility. Southwire Company of Carrollton, Georgia was honored for its
varied research and development program and mature strategic energy management plant at its Utility Products Plant.
The three suppliers were chosen from 100 nominations by a selection committee of Cinergy materials management, business unit and environmental services
representatives. The selection process included site visits by Cinergy environmental auditors. "All three companies demonstrated a true commitment to
the environment by their environmental protection, pollution prevention, energy conservation, research and development and aggressive natural resources
stewardship," said William F. Tyndall, vice president of environmental services and federal affairs at Cinergy.
