h1. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Features and Benefits

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 was originally released March 2007 with improved performance and scalability, easier to use security. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 provides the first support for Cell B.E. with the Bladecenter QS21 and Bladecenter QS22 certifications.

The latest update now available is RHEL 5.4, released in September 2009. Besides enhancements in performance and scalability, such as Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and OFED Infiniband drivers support, RHEL5.4 improved the virtualization capabilities with the inclusion of the kernel-based virtual machine (KVM) technology, with contribution and support by IBM. When running on Power systems, we recommend at least RHEL 5.2 level.
