| | Every firmware service processor on a Power5 box has 2 Ethernet interfaces used for connection to the Hardware Management Console (HMC). Immediately after the power cord is connected to the p5 system, service processor sends a DHCP request through both interfaces. If no DHCP adress is received it falls back to the default adress: |

| | h2. How do determine FSP IP adress |

| | If the default IPs above are not accessible and you do not have access to any DHCPd logs which may have provided an adress you can use following procedure to determine the adress through 3 white buttons at the operation panel below the led: |

| | # Change "N" to "M" (for manual) |
| | # Select function 30 |
| | # Change "**" to "00" and press Enter |
| | # See the adress of HMC1 at "00" and HMC2 at "01" |
| | # Select function 02 |
| | # Change "M" back to "N" |
| | |
| | h2. Connection to ASMI through serial cable |

| | Service Processor FSP is also accessible through serial line connection. See ftp://www6.software.ibm.com/software/developer/library/l-pow-opsetup.pdf for detailed settings. |

| | This connection is only active if the box is not currently connected to HMC or was connected to it in the last 14 days. |
| | If you see HMC=1 or HMC=0 on the LED screen you will not be able to get serial connection. You can reset the service processor and make it forget its HMC connection. |

| | h2. Disconnecting an HMC |

| | In order to get serial access to the operating system you may need to disconnect the system from HMC and make it forget the HMC connection.
