 h1. WebSphere MQ

[WebSphere MQ|http://www.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/] ([Wikipedia|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebSphere_MQ]), formerly known as [MQSeries|http://www.ibm.com/software/mqseries/], part of the [Application Connectivity (MOM)|http://www.ibm.com/software/websphere/sw-bycategory/subcategory/SW910.html] subcategory of products, is pretty much the original [messaging system|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Message_Oriented_Middleware].

Just about any kind of [client|http://www.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/clients/] (platform and language), including [Web services clients|http://www.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/webservices/], can connect to WMQ, which makes it great for integrating applications written in very different languages running on very different operating systems. WMQ can act as a [JMS|Java Message Service] provider.

You can [download a trial install of WMQ V6.0|http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/wmq].

There is now a [WebSphere MQ 6.0 Information Center|http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv6/v6r0/index.jsp]. The [manuals|http://www.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/library/] are also available.

A good way to learn about how to integrate applications using a messaging system like WMQ is the book _[Enterprise Integration Patterns]_.
