The New Language of Business

The New Language of Business is a book by Sandy Carter, IBM's Vice President of SOA & WebSphere Marketing, Strategy, and Channels, published by IBM Press. IBM's description and announcement have a link to order the book from IBM Press and get a 35% discount.

Naturally, the book is on SOA, especially aligining IT with the business and developing business flexibility. It coins a new term, the "flex-pon-sive" company, to describe an enterprise that is able to respond quickly to rapidly changing business needs. This being IBM, there's even a press release: "IBM Press Publishes The New Language of Business: SOA & WEB 2.0" It describes the book as one that "advises companies on how to achieve competitive advantage through a service oriented approach that directly links IT with business objectives."

There's a sample chapter on developerWorks, "Chapter 11: Putting It All Together."

I've talked about Sandy Carter on my blog: What is an ESB, and do you really need one?. She talks about the book on her blog: Yes, My Book is Published, One of my Top 100!. Susan Visser talks about the book on her blog: The New Language of Business: SOA & Web 2.0. Sandy also has a webcast: "Service-Oriented Architecture Simplified."
