Sun Microsystems (Wikipedia) is the company that created Java. It manages the evolution of Java through the Java Community Process.

Sun Micro is also a vendor for a host of computer products such as:

• The Solaris edition of the Unix operating system
• Server computers
• Sun Java System Application Server, which implements Java EE
• Project GlassFish, an open-source implementation of Java EE

Sun Micro is in many ways a competitor of IBM Corporation, although the two companies do collaborate on Java. The two companies can be described as being in coopetition with each other.
