Entry points into SOA

How do I get started with SOA?

There's no one simple answer for how to get started with SOA, but IBM has some suggestions that are pretty helpful: Five SOA Entry Points (details). The entry points are closely associated with the IBM SOA Foundation.

Briefly, the entry points are:

  1. People – Collaboration among people (coordinated by computers)
  2. Process – Automation of repeatable business processes
  3. Information – Access points for common data
  4. Connectivity – Application integration that is standards-based and interoperable
  5. Reuse – Business-oriented building blocks

They're described in the white paper "Entry points into SOA: Taking a business-centric approach" (PDF), available in the IBM SOA Library.
