Java Community Process

The Java Community Process (JCP) (Wikipedia) is a relatively open set of procedures for developing new Java technologies. In this way, no one company controls Java (although Sun exherts quite a bit of influence); companies and individuals work together to improve Java.

Each new technology or new version of an existing technology is developed as a JSR, which is run by the rules of the JCP.
