By-Laws (EXAMPLE)
MISSION
The mission of the (add your UG name here) User Group is to accomplish the following:
• Facilitate two-way communications
• Provide a mechanism for communication between users on best practices for using the POWER family of products
• Represent the unique interests of the (add your UG name here) developers to IBM
• Provide a forum to supplement and complement normal IBM functions and POWER and AIX documentation
MEMBERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION
Any end user, vendor, State agency, commission, or university can participate in this user group. Both full time and contract employees may attend on behalf of the member agency. IBM may also send representatives. Other people may be invited to attend pending approval of the user group President.
Participants are forbidden from using the user group meetings as a means of marketing services, job searching or employee searching ("head hunting").
There are no dues or fees required for participation. Member organizations may be asked to provide a meeting room. Member organizations are encouraged to provide speakers, and refreshment, but this is not a requirement.
ELECTIONS AND TERMS OF OFFICE
The president of the user group presides over the meetings and is responsible for keeping the minutes. The president is elected once a year by a simple majority of votes - one vote per attending member organization. There is no restriction on the number of terms a person can hold the office of president.
Elections generally follow these guidelines:
• Nominations are taken for all positions held in the User Group Region. Each nominee can be allowed to talk about the regional goals and objectives.
• Blank ballots are handed out, one to each organization present at the election meeting. This procedure eliminates more than one vote being cast from any one organization and voiding of duplicate votes.
• Two attendees are designated to count ballots and tally the election results.
