Starting an advanced installation

For complete installation instructions, see the TBSM information center.

To start the advanced installation, complete the following steps:

  1. Insert the installation media (DVD) into the appropriate computer. Note: If you are installing TBSM on SuSE from the DVD, you cannot use automount. You must use the following command:
    mount \-t iso9660 \-o ro <dvd filesystem=""> <mount point="">

    For example:

    mount \-t iso9660 \-o ro /dev/cdrom /dvd

The Tivoli Business Service Manager 4.1.1 Launchpad opens to the launchpad Welcome panel that includes an overview of TBSM 4.1.1 functions.

  2. On the TBSM Launchpad, click Install IBM Tivoli Business Service Manager 4.1.1.

  3. Click Run the Tivoli Business Service Manager 4.1.1 installation program.

  4. Select the language for the installation program to use and click OK.

  5. Read the information on the Welcome panel, and click Next.

  6. Read the License Agreement. Click Read non-IBM terms to read the non-IBM terms in the license agreement.

    • Click Print if you want to print the license agreement.

    • If you accept the terms of the license agreement, click I accept both the IBM and the non-IBM terms and click Next to continue. Otherwise, click I do not accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Cancel to cancel the installation.

  7. You are prompted for the name of the installation directory where the TBSM 4.1.1 program is to be installed. Either accept the default directory that is displayed, or click Browse and select a different directory. On UNIX platforms, the default directory is /opt/IBM/Netcool. On Windows platforms, the default directory is C:\IBM\Netcool.

    Notes:
    • If the Directory Name field and Browse button are not available, this indicates that the environment variable, NCHOME, was set during a previous installation. If NCHOME is already set, the directory name is preset to the value of NCHOME. You can un-set the environment variable or reboot after the setting is removed from the .profile (or .bash_profile) after an uninstall. For information about uninstalling, the TBSM software program, see the TBSM information center.

    • The TBSM installation directory name cannot contain any spaces.

    • Some of the prerequisites installed with TBSM do not support installation paths that contain national language characters outside of the 7-bit ASCII range. If you decide to install TBSM into a path other than the default directory suggested at install time, make sure to specify a path that does not contain any of these unsupported characters. This limitation applies to all supported platforms. Click Next to continue.

  8. Select Advanced for the installation type. Advanced installation installs the software features that you select and gives you the opportunity to set values that are different from the default values. Advanced installation is recommended for production environments. Click Next.

  9. A panel opens for you to select the features that you want to install on this computer. By default, all of the prerequisite software features are selected. Deselect all of the features except the ones that you want to install at this time. Click Next. A summary panel is displayed. The installation directory is listed as is each component that is installed on this server.

  10. Click Install and follow the prompts continue with the installation.

Command line console installation example

Use the console installation when a graphical user interface is not available. The console installation provides command line prompts for your input data. To start the console mode, pass -console to the name of the installer.

To start the console mode for the installation of TBSM, enter the following command:

setup \-console
