How to create and submit a report
Prerequisites
Before developing a report, ensure that you have met the development prerequisites.
Conceptualization
In conceptualizing your report, the best place to start is the Reports Hit List. Here you can see a list of reports that have been requested by customers or IBM internal groups, and the status of these reports.
If you would like to develop and submit a report that is not on this list, make sure to look at the Reports A-Z list and the shipped reports list. These lists will show you the reports that currently exist, in order to avoid duplicate efforts.
You can also look at the report gallery for an idea of the capabilities of BIRT and of existing reports.
Development
If this is your first BIRT report, take a look at the report development walk-through. Whether or not this is your first report, refer frequently to the report best practices.
The results of your efforts will be an .rptdesign file and possibly some .jar files or .properties files. These must be appropriately packaged for submission to the community.
Packaging your report
Once you have created and tested your report, the report must be packaged appropriately for the community web site. The report should be packaged as a zip file containing:
- the .rptdesign file for your report;
- a completed README
file describing your report; and
- any additional files needed (for example, .jar or .properties files).
Submit a report
To submit a report, you must first accept the Submission of Content Agreement . You can then submit your report through the Exchange Submission Form.
Internal IBMers who wish to contribute reports need to follow a few constraints and additional steps .
