WebSphere eXtreme Scale Version 7.0 is now available.

In this new version, we've improved our documentation by providing three distinct guides: An Overview, Administration and Programming guide. You can download them as PDF files or on-line in the traditional Information Center format.

We've improved our installer, so that you can now install eXtreme Scale on any version of WebSphere Application Server 6.0.2 or later, or as a stand-alone installation. eXtreme Scale no longer shares any common componentry with any other products, so you can install eXtreme Scale 7.0 with WebSphere Extended Deployment Compute Grid, Virtual Enterprise 6.1 or any other WebSphere family product.

Some of the most notable feature enhancements include:

  • WebSphere dynamic cache integration (DynaCache): Leverage the advanced features and performance improvements of WebSphere eXtreme Scale using WebSphere dynamic cache.
  • Byte-array maps: Byte array maps reduce the memory footprint of the grid cache, resulting in lower memory costs and better performance..
  • WebSphere Real Time support: With support for WebSphere Real Time, the industry-leading real-time Java™ offering, WebSphere eXtreme Scale enables XTP applications to have more consistent and predictable response times.
  • Metric enablement: Implementations of metric access adapters to improve integration with IBM® Tivoli® Monitoring (ITM) and Hyperic HQ.
  • Dynamic map template support: Map templates allow applications to create new maps on demand, avoiding the need to use application discriminators in the keys or creating extra maps that may never be used.
  • Client request timeouts: The request timeout for clients removes the burden from developers for boilerplate retry logic for most map interaction operations
  • Composite indexes: Simplifies index usage when querying multiple attributes and reduce the overhead of having multiple indexes defined. Query has also been optimized to take advantage of composite indexes
