The RamSan, the World's Fastest Storage®, accelerates any application waiting on conventional storage devices due to latency, bandwidth, or I/O.

Detailed solution description:

The RamSan, the World's Fastest Storage®, accelerates any application waiting on conventional storage devices due to latency, bandwidth, or I/O. OLTP, ERP, non-linear video editing, and other high-resource applications can receive instant performance improvements by simply moving all or part of the application onto a RamSan Solid State Disk.

Functional description

The RamSan uses RAM chips as its primary storage media. This, combined with high speed interface controllers, allows it to perform up to 400,000 I/Os per second and transfer up to 2800 MB per second through eight Fibre Channel links.

It contains redundant internal UPS systems and redundant backup drives to ensure complete non-volatility. If power is lost, the RamSan will remain powered long enough to complete the backup of all data onto the backup drives.

It appears no different than any other storage subsystem to the network or server it is connected to, and has a variety of management features including LUN masking, SNMP broadcasting, and a browser-based java management applet.

Competitive advantage

The RamSan offers higher performance and higher reliability than any competing solid state disk. The system provides over 400,000 random IOPS or close to 2.8GB per second of random bandwidth, and includes IBM Chipkill™ technology to protect data if a memory chip fails. The RamSan also includes redundant batteries and backup hard disk drives to protect data in the event external power is lost.

Business problem

The RamSan allows an application to support higher number of concurrent users with better response times. If applied for a batch processing application, it helps that batch process complete more quickly. The RamSan helps customers maximize the performance of their servers and applications.

Business opportunity

Eliminating slow storage enables servers to fully utilize their processors. Solid state disks serve as integral parts of movements to consolidate servers or storage, to move data to a SAN, or to maximize user concurrency for a popular application. One SSD can improve application performance 2-20x, which translates into immediate and dramatic ROI. No RAID or competing solid state disk is as fast as the RamSan.

Return on investment

The RamSan helps companies solve business problems that are often otherwise unsolveable. In doing so, it helps businesses improve profitability, decrease costs and increase customer satisfaction when all other actions taken to increase application performance have failed.
