Question: The visual editor doesn't seem to change the source code correctly.
Answer:

There is a bug if you are running Java 1.5. If so, you will need to change your Eclipse settings to use the 1.4 VM. More information about how to do this is found here:
http://help.eclipse.org/help21/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse.platform.doc.user/tasks/running_eclipse.htm

By Andrew Swan - I still get this in Eclipse 3.1 even when using Java 1.4.2_07.

By Jim Hsu - Thanks for posting, Andrew, and welcome to the Wiki. The above answer was based on an issue from an earlier version of IDE4Laszlo. From recent forum activity, it appears there are new issues in the latest IDE4Laszlo release. I am able to successfully run IDE4Laszlo on Java 1.4.2_08 on Windows XP with the download packages from here: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/blogs/dw_blog_comments.jspa?blog=486&entry=92445 It might help to try a clean install using the Eclipse Update Manager.

Question: What steps are needed to run on Linux?
Answer:

The Visual Editor uses the SWT Browser control, which requires Linux users to install Eclipse 3.02 and Mozilla 1.7.x (Note: Mozilla Firefox will NOT work) for the IDE to function correctly. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Download and install Eclipse 3.02.
2. Download and install Mozilla 1.7.x.
3. Once Mozilla 1.7.x is installed:

  • check if the shell variable MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME is set and points to Mozilla 1.7.x.
$ echo $MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME
  • If necessary, set correctly by doing:
$ MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=<Mozilla 1.7.x install directory>
$ export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME

4. Startup eclipse by doing the following;

$ cd <Eclipse 3.02 install directory>
$ ./eclipse -vmargs -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.internal.flash

(This will enable the Flash Player in the SWT Browser)

These steps were tested on a variety of Linux distributions, but if by any chance these steps do not work, you can find more information in the following links:
