For security reasons the ftp protocol is blocked in my company, and I guess that the same happens in many other firewalled networks.

Hi Serg,

We had volunteers for the Russian translation, but at the end, they didn't have time to commit, and gave up... I'm still looking for volunteer translators.  If you know of any who'd like to help, let me know!

I'm not sure if you are familiar with the Espresso Book Machine (EBM), but it will allow printing out of Publieshed Quality Books.  Since I usually print out my technical information and read it away from the computer, being able to print the IBM books out on this would be really helpful. (Even with a duplexer and putting stuff in binders it is still very awkward  to deal with a the text).

Unfortunately the local EBM location says they can't print ebooks with copyrights.  (I've asked them about if the copyright allows for reprinting (such as manuals for Apple Products), if that is allowed).  Unfortunately the Copyright Statement in the IBM book, doesn't carve any similar exception (and I'm not sure if that would even be allowed).

I was wondering, does IBM have any plans to make these titles available via EBM/Books-on-Demmand?

 thanks,

James

Hi James,

We do have plans, but have not yet put them into effect.  We looked at sites like Lulu.com and Amazon which allow you to print books on demand. We are waiting to have more books published to take a closer look at this.  In the meantime, if you want a hardcopy of this particular book (Getting started with DB2 Express-C), I can send you one for free!.  Please contact me through the DB2 on Campus Facebook group:  http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=3000790461

Cheers, Raul.

When will other book titles like Web 2.0, InfoSphere data architect, and pureXML be available? It's been quite a while since they were advertised as 'Coming soon'.

Posted by Seedwell at Feb 07, 2011 07:11 | Permalink

@Seedwell: The books are being published as they are completed. This has been happening at a good pace, with one new one already out this year and several others published in the second half of the previous year.

I hope there will be a french edition. For the moment I'll keep up with the en_GB, ja_JP, pl_PL editions...

I really appreciate when you can get to the manuals in several tongues.

I used to self-teach MySQL and there is a chance I get a job where I would use a DB2 base. Happy there are both soft and documentation I can retrieve legally at home to train these skills.

TY IBM.
