Management Edition for AIX Overview

IBM Management Edition for AIX is a systems management offering that provides discovery, monitoring, performance tracking and usage accounting capabilities that are integrated with AIX environments, providing the tools to effectively and efficiently manage enterprise IT infrastructures.
IBM Management Edition for AIX provides the following in your AIX environment:

  • Discovery. The discovery of System p nodes and their configuration in your network.
  • Monitoring and performance tracking. The monitoring of system health on selected nodes. An agent monitors against criteria set by you to determine critical levels of use, performance, or activity. Events can be sent to a variety of portals if pre-selected thresholds are exceeded.In addition, configuration changes can be monitored on all discovered nodes, with changes being reported on queries or events.
  • Usage accounting. The determination of your System p server usage with features designed to accurately measure, analyze, and report system utilization.

For version 1.2.0, the following products are bundled:

  • IBM DB2 Database, version 9.5 Fix Pack 4 (Storing and products prerequisite)
  • IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager, version 7.1.2 (Discovery)
  • IBM Usage and Accounting Manager Virtualization Edition, version 7.1 (Usage accounting)
  • IBM Tivoli Monitoring, version 6.2.2 (Monitoring and performance tracking)
  • IBM Tivoli Monitoring System-p agents, version 6.2.1 (Monitoring and performance tracking)
  • IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer, version 6.2.2 (Monitoring and performance tracking)
  • IBM Tivoli Common Reporting, version 1.2.0.1 with System-p Reports (Monitoring and performance tracking)

Moreover IBM Management Edition for AIX provides a set of products integration modules. For version 1.2.0 of IBM Management Edition for AIX, the following integration modules are provided:

  • Change event module
  • Monitoring Agent for Management Edition for AIX Integration on Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server
  • IBM Usage and Accounting Manager Administrator Console workspace for Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server
  • IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager configuration data workspaces for Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server
  • IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager change events workspaces for Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server

IBM Management Edition for AIX provides a Launchpad based GUI to setup and configure the whole environment.
