About virtualization
Virtual machines provide a separate, isolated computing environment as a computer program on your desktop. The virtual machine itself represents a complete computer system: when you power on the virtual machine, it boots into the operating system that you have installed. In effect, virtual machines allow you to operate two or more computers on a single notebook computer or workstation.
