What is ExSafe?

Microsoft Excel has in excess of 500 million users worldwide. It is used extensively as the foundation for making financial decisions and reporting in the business world. However, it does not have the built in protection and security, which enables it to be managed in an environment where the potential for error and uncontrolled spreadsheets is eliminated. It does have a password protection feature but - passwords need to be distributed with each spreadsheet and allocated to a sheet rather than a user. To further diminish their effectiveness, password crackers for Excel are widely available on the internet.
It is impossible to make the contents of certain cells invisible to some users based on access rights to that spreadsheet. This is particularly important when allowing access to sheets that may have sensitive information such as profit margins on certain items, commission rates of individual employees or contact details of key suppliers.
ExSafe is the first product in the world that delivers true security to the users of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, down to cell level.
ROISoft offers, through its product ExSafe, the ability to manage Excel spreadsheets in a controlled environment. Spreadsheets are stored in a central database and checked in and out based on the user's access rights to do so. It also permits the application of security down to cell level within the spreadsheet. This enables (or disables) the users' facility to view or change the contents of that cell. As changes are made to a spreadsheet, they are logged to an audit trail file. In this way, the user has the ability to trace back through changes that have been made to the contents of cells.
This audit trail file is also securely stored in the backend database. ExSafe also stores a version of each spreadsheet, automatically, so that it is possible to roll back to previous versions seamlessly. This ensures that there is always a master reference sheet - especially useful if changes have been made, that are no longer required. The product does not interfere in any way with the users experience and interaction with Excel in the conventional way.
