Before you start
This tutorial takes an advanced approach to keep your new assets in your extended site reusable, scalable, and compliant with the design intentions of the WebSphere Commerce extended sites framework. The tutorial starts with some basic scenarios of extending the store path model. You will then create new business assets introducing a new entity bean, thus learning how to integrate that with the extended site framework. Topping all of that off, you will understand a new concept of controlling granular level sub-assets belonging to a higher level group of shared assets.
In this tutorial, you learn about the extended site store path model, special EJB extension capabilities, and granular level control of subsets of shared assets.
The majority of WebSphere Commerce deployments have already incorporated the extended site model. If your business has not incorporated the extended site model yet, you most likely do so after learning the techniques provided in this tutorial. Therefore, it is expected that you deploy extended sites into your development box and learn the basics of the sample stores. There are steps in this tutorial that assume you have access to those extended sites framework, provided as a result of the deployments. There is a quick review in this tutorial on how to set up a basic extended site environment.
To implement the tasks listed in this tutorial, you need WebSphere Commerce V6 or V7.
