Learn how you could use IBM® WebSphere® Business Monitor Version 6.0.2 to monitor business process applications. Working through a "Hello World" equivalent example in the monitoring world, new users get familiar with the capabilities of Business Monitor. You learn these capabilities through the convenience of a sophisticated development environment which you learn how to assemble as part of the tutorial. That is, you install WebSphere Business Monitor Development Toolkit on WebSphere Integration Developer, which gives you tools for creating Monitor Models and an Integrated Test Environment for trying out many of the Business Monitor capabilities.

This tutorial is more than a cookbook. It clearly explains the monitoring capabilities, defines choices you can make, and guides you through successful completion of the primary tasks. Using this guidance gives you get a deeper understanding of how you can use Business Monitor in your own environment.

Objectives

  • Create a simple BPEL business process including several events.

  • Create a Monitor Model from the BPEL process to measure business values associated with that process.

  • Deploy the model to the WebSphere Business Monitor Integrated Test Environment (ITE).

  • Test the model and observe the results using the Business Monitor dashboard.

Prerequisites

This tutorial is for new users of WebSphere Business Monitor V6.0.2; you do not need to be familiar with Business Monitor. You perform most of the tasks in the tutorial with WebSphere Integration Developer. Although you do not need to be a current user of WebSphere Integration Developer to understand this tutorial, some of the concepts may be easier to understand if you have some basic knowledge of that product.


System requirements

To work through this tutorial you need these CD's (or download images) which are included in the WebSphere Business Monitor V6.0.2 product:

  • WebSphere Business Monitor Development Toolkit
  • WebSphere Integration Developer

This tutorial takes about one hour to complete.
