In this tutorial, you learn how to configure and test IBM®WebSphere® Partner Gateway and SonicMQ for sending Java ™ Message Service (JMS) messages to and receiving JMS messages from SonicMQ (from WebSphere Partner Gateway perspective). In this way, you can integrate WebSphere Partner Gateway via an existing SonicMQ messaging infrastructure to other back-end systems like WebSphere Transformation Extender for further processing.

Objectives

  • Develop a general understanding of JMS.

  • Configure and test a JMS Target in WebSphere Partner Gateway.

  • Configure and test a JMS Gateway in WebSphere Partner Gateway.

  • Configure and test queues in SonicMQ.

  • Configure and test JMS destinations and a QueueConnectionFactory in SonicMQ.

Prerequisites

This tutorial is written for WebSphere Partner Gateway administrators whose skills and experience are at a beginning to intermediate level. You should have a general familiarity with using a UNIX® command-line shell. For the understanding of the JMS architecture, basic knowledge of the Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) is necessary.

System requirements

SonicMQ with activated security APAR24570 (included in fixpak 5) is necessary, if you try to connect to a SonicMQ broker with activated security. It adds fields in the WebSphere Partner Gateway console for Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) security.

This tutorial was tested on SUSE Linux® Enterprise Edition 9 with WebSphere Partner Gateway 6.0, fixpak 3 (+ APAR JR24570) and the SonicMQ versions 6.1 and 7.0. In general the performed steps are not expected to be specific for a certain UNIX platform. For the Windows® environment some minor changes concerning the classpath would be necessary.
