This tutorial guides you through the default installation and configuration of the WebSphere® Data Interchange Server on AIX and provides the details for the remote installation of the WebSphere Data Interchange Server from a Windows client using Cygwin/X. It discusses the steps involved in creating the WebSphere Data Interchange database and WebSphere MQ objects required for use with WebSphere Data Interchange.
This tutorial is intended for users not yet familiar with the installation of the WebSphere Data Interchange Server on AIX. Users should already have an understanding of the general install procedure for WebSphere Data Interchange and may well have successfully installed the WebSphere Data Interchange Server on Windows.
Objectives - Install an X Windows Server on Windows.
- Install a WebSphere Data Interchange Server on AIX.
- Create a WebSphere Data Interchange Database.
- Configure WebSphere MQ.
- Connect the WebSphere Data Interchange Client.
Prerequisites
- This tutorial assumes a working knowledge of both UNIX and Windows operating systems. For example, simple tasks such as how to create new users on AIX are not covered in this tutorial.

WebSphere MQ and IBM DB2 UDB should already be installed on your AIX machine. The steps involved in the installation of these applications are outside the scope of this tutorial.
- Please make sure that the WebSphere Data Interchange Client is already installed on Windows.
System requirements
You will need the following software installed and tested prior to beginning the tutorial:
- WebSphere Data Interchange Client Version 3.2, Fix Pack 8
- IBM DB2 Universal Database Version 8.1 (for AIX)
- IBM DB2 Connect Version 8.1
- WebSphere MQ Version 5.3 (for AIX)
In this tutorial, you will install:
- Cygwin\X
- WebSphere Data Interchange Server Version 3.2, CSD 10 (for AIX)
