This tutorial walks you through the creation of a queue manager in WebSphere MQ along with the necessary WebSphere MQ objects required for use with WebSphere Data Interchange. Changes are made to the default WebSphere Data Interchange configuration through the WebSphere Data Interchange Client. The example used to illustrate the required configuration is an XML in, EDI out scenario over WebSphere MQ. The sample data transformation map created in the tutorial, An Introduction to Data Transformation Mapping using WebSphere Data Interchange is available for download with this tutorial. You'll see how to integrate the WebSphere MQ setup, the WebSphere Data Interchange setup and the sample data transformation map in Section 6.

Note: This tutorial does not cover a detailed WebSphere MQ configuration. Details on setting up WebSphere MQ communications can be found in the WebSphere MQ Quick Beginnings documentation supplied with the product.

This tutorial is intended for users of WebSphere Data Interchange who are interested in messaging via WebSphere MQ. Familiarity with WebSphere MQ isn't necessary to complete this tutorial.

Objectives

  • Create a WebSphere MQ queue manager.

  • Create the WebSphere MQ objects necessary for WebSphere Data Interchange integration.

  • Configure WebSphere Data Interchange to receive data off a WebSphere MQ queue, translate the data and write the result to a WebSphere MQ queue.

Prerequisites

This tutorial assumes you have installed and configured a simple WebSphere Data Interchange solution. It also assumes you have installed the WebSphere Data Interchange Server and created the WebSphere Data Interchange Database. The WebSphere MQ objects created are those defined in the wdimqcommands.txt script shipped with WebSphere Data Interchange. The default WebSphere Data Interchange configuration is used as the foundation for setting up the relevant profiles from the WebSphere Data Interchange Client.

System requirements

The following software should be installed and tested prior to beginning the tutorial:

  • WebSphere Data Interchange Client Version 3.2, Fix Pack 4
  • WebSphere Data Interchange Server Version 3.2, CSD 2
  • WebSphere MQ Version 5.3
  • RFHUtil (see Appendix A)
  • DB2® Universal Database Version 7.2
