An Introduction to Data Transformation Mapping using WebSphere Data Interchange

This tutorial takes the novice WebSphere® Data Interchange user through the process of creating a simple data transformation map using WebSphere Data Interchange Version 3.2.
This tutorial is intended for developers not yet familiar with data transformation mapping in WebSphere Data Interchange Version 3.2. A typical reader may have used traditional Send and Receive maps on Data Interchange or WebSphere Data Interchange Version 3.1. This tutorial is also open to those who are unfamiliar with the concept of data transformation mapping in general and are using a WebSphere Data Interchange solution as an engine for same.

Objectives

  • Import an EDI standard into WebSphere Data Interchange.

  • Import an XML DTD into WebSphere Data Interchange.

  • Create a new data transformation map using EDIand XML.

  • Compile a data transformation map.

Prerequisites

You should be familiar with the underlying concepts in WebSphere Data Interchange and you should understand the installation and configuration of WebSphere Data Interchange Version 3.2. It is also strongly recommended that you first read IBM's Redbook, WebSphere Data Interchange Installation and Configuration.


System requirements

It is recommended that you install and configure a WebSphere Data Interchange Solution before beginning this tutorial.You will need the following tools to complete this tutorial:

  1. WebSphere Data Interchange Client Version 3.2
  2. WebSphere Data Interchange Server Version 3.2
  3. DB2 Version 7.2
