13 Apr 2005 Updated 11 Jul 2005 Sometimes there is a need for extending the WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker with custom message flow nodes to augment its message-processing capabilities. This article describes the steps required to create, package, and install the tooling and runtime implementations of a custom node on WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker V5. A real-life example shows you how to create a simple custom node that can send e-mail messages using the JavaMail API.
IBM® WebSphere® Business Integration Message Broker provides a rich set of built-in nodes for building message flow applications. But there might be special processing needs that aren't covered by the built-in nodes. In these cases, Message Broker can be extended with custom user-defined nodes implemented using the Java™ or C language.
This is the fifth article in the six-part series on Message Broker V5 and it demonstrates how to create and deploy custom nodes on the application. To get the most out of this article, read the first article of the series, "Part 1: Integration Scenario -- Creating a Web Order processing application," and familiarize yourself with the Web Order sample application.
