29 Oct 2004 Updated 11 Jul 2005 This guide is a cookbook for installing an environment which can support collaborative portals. It provides detailed instructions for installing on a Microsoft® Windows® 2000 operating system. Many of the principles from this cookbook can be used for other platforms and other configurations.
There are two stacks of software needed for this collaborative environment: a portal stack and a collaboration stack. The portal stack includes (at a minimum) IBM® HTTP, IBM WebSphere® WebSphere Application Server, and IBM WebSphere Portal. This guide assumes you use the default Cloudscape Java database; however, you could choose to replace it with DB2®.
The collaboration stack includes Lotus® Domino, Sametime, and QuickPlace. Domino is the basis for all the collaboration software. You must install it first and then install Sametime or QuickPlace on top of it. This guide also includes instructions for installing IBM Lotus Extended Search. The Domino stack should not be installed all on one machine; QuickPlace, Sametime, and Domino LDAP should be on separate hardware servers.
