Accessing WebSphere Portal Personalization Rules Programmatically

Zeynep Latif is a software engineer currently working as an application developer in the IBM Software Group Horizontal Integration Analysis Lab in Research Triangle Park, NC. Along with her teammates, she is responsible for validating selected customer-based business scenarios to improve the customer experience with IBM Software Group products, especially the integration of those products. Summary:  This article describes how to personalize a portlet using application logic on content which has been personalized using business rules. It introduces two use cases to illustrate accessing personalization rules within a portlet.

The methodology described in this article was developed as part of the solution development for the Customer Loyalty scenario. This scenario focuses on the financial industryand banking aspects of a B2C environment and has a business objective which depends on personalizedcontent. This objective was addressed by the methodology explained in this article.
