Level: Introductory Nicholas Chase , Freelance writer
23 Oct 2001 This tutorial is designed for users who need to understand the modularization of XHTML, either to use a subset of XHTML, or to add their own tags to create their own markup language variants. Prerequisites
You should have a thorough understanding of XML and at least a basic understanding of XHTML and how it is used. You should also understand XML validation and be familiar with Document Type Definitions (DTDs) and namespaces. You do not need any programming skills to understand this tutorial.
System requirements
You will need JavaScript enabled on your browser. This tutorial demonstrates the building of XHTML modules. To actually build these modules, you need only a text editor. To take it one step further and test your new modules, you need a validating parser, such as the Java APIs for XML Processing (JAXP) or Xerces.
