Build a framework for problem determination triage
So how do you set up "triage" problem determination? This article describes aspects of event visualization for triage problem determination that use concepts of autonomic computing -- such as Log and Trace Analyzer for Java Desktop (LTA-JD) -- and symptoms to represent, detect, evaluate, and resolve incidents and problems related to business mission-critical infrastructure management and operations. This two-part article also covers event and symptom visualization and processing methods of LTA-JD to enable efficient proactive avoidance of these incidents and problems. In this first part, you'll take a tour of the underlying concepts.

DB2 Warehouse Management: High Availability and Problem Determination Guide
Using IBM DB2 Universal Database and DB2 Warehouse Manager provides a central point of control for managing data sources, including processes for building and populating data warehouses (or datamarts). The objective of this IBM Redbook is to deliver guidelines for building a High Availability DB2 warehouse environment and to assist with problem determination when using DB2 Warehouse Manager. This book will help you to understand the DB2 Warehouse Manager architecture and components, and to cope with system failures and their consequences. It also provides a set of documentation on the different High Availability techniques you can use when facing database, server, or disk failures.

DB2 9 for z/OS: Distributed Functions
In this IBM Redbooks publication we describe how to set up your DDF environment, and how to deploy the DDF capabilities in different configurations, including how to develop applications that access distributed databases. We also describe a set of more advanced features, such as thread pooling and high availability distributed configurations, in a DB2 data sharing environment, as well as the traces available to you to do performance monitoring and problem determination. In summary, we show how a high-volume, highly available transactional application can be successfully implemented with a DB2 for z/OS data server accessed by all types of application servers or clients running on the same or different platform.

Analyzing lockwait situations in DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows
When several DB2 users access a database concurrently, lockwait situations can cause bad response times. Lockwaits tend to be temporary in nature and thus hard to catch. Nevertheless, when lockwait situations occur, it is the database administrator's responsibility to determine the cause of the lockwait times. This article demonstrates, by example, how to use the db2pd and db2pdcfg utilities for DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows to accomplish that task.
