Find out how IBM can help you teach the practical applications and algorithms of linear programming, integer programming and constraint programming.

Overview of operations research and management science

Operations research and management science is the discipline of using statistical analysis, data and computer modeling, linear programming, constraint programming, and other mathematical techniques to make strategic decisions and solve business problems. These techniques are especially useful in large complex organizatons and today's hectic, competitive environment.

IBM ILOG Optimization products and technologies are part of the WebSphere portfolio. They include stand-alone high-performance mathematical programming and constraint programming engines, along with integrated productivity tools for model and application development. Users can also interface with IBM ILOG Optimization mathematical programming engines through APIs and other popular modeling environments, including Microsoft Excel and MATLAB.

If your curriculum includes theoretical treatment and/or applications of linear programming, integer programming and constraint programming, consider using IBM ILOG Optimization software in your classroom and labs.

How can IBM help me teach about operations research and management science?

The IBM Academic Initiative has links to many publicly available tutorials, technical articles, and white papers to help you and your students learn about the IBM ILOG Optimization software. These products provide a foundation from which you can teach model formulation and model building skills, as well as fundamental algorithmic theory, using a powerful and easy-to-learn algebraic modeling, debugging and solution analysis environment.

The program also offers software, courseware, and many other benefits to its members at no charge. Not a member? Join now.

Academic Initiative members can download teaching versions of our IBM ILOG Optimization software and professionally developed courseware to use in classes or labs.
