Master the Mainframe Contest 2008

United States and Canada (excluding Quebec)

Tab navigation

In the fall semester of 2008, IBM ran its fourth annual Master the Mainframe Contest for college, university, and high school students across the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec).

Find students with mainframe skills

It easier than ever for mainframe employers to link up with students who excel in the Master the Mainframe Contest. Every student to successfully complete Part 2 of the contest (an impressive accomplishment!) receives an invitation to upload their resume to the IBM Student Opportunity System. There, employers can search the resumes, using filters to help find students that match their hiring needs.

Follow these steps to find resumes of students who have excelled in the contest:

  1. Go to the IBM Student Opportunity System customer page.
Note: You will need an IBM ID to search the Student Opportunity System database. If you don't already have one, you can register for one from Student Opportunity System.
  2. Select "Search for qualified students" and provide your username and password.
  3. After logging in,you can select criteria from many categories. The easiest way to locate mainframe-educated students is to leave all categories in their default settings, with these exceptions:
    • Preferred country: Select the appropriate country from the dropdown list
    • Desired job category: Select "Large Systems / Enterprise Application", which is about 2/3 of the way down the list.
  4. Then click Submit.
This shows all of the resumes submitted specifically by mainframe students. In addition to students who have completed Part 2 of the Master the Mainframe Contest, you will see resumes from students who have completed college or university courses on System z technologies, as well as resumes from students who have passed the z/OS System Programmer Mastery Test.
  5. You will see a list of student names, their school name, skills, and graduation dates. Click the student name to view additional information and download the resume.
