What is a mainframe, anyway?
On 28 August 2012, IBM introduced its most powerful, scalable and energy-efficient
mainframe server ever, the IBM zEnterprise EC12, the result of over one
billion dollars of research and development. This machine sports up to
120 of the world's fastest microprocessors, running at 5.5Ghz. It also
has up to 3 terabytes of RAM, plus additional coprocessors for specialized
tasks such as running JAVA applications at maximum performance and dealing
with heavy database workloads. Cool? Cool.
