Power Systems: Linux

Academic Initiative program

Tab navigation

There are many benefits to learning about Linux on Power Systems for both educational institutions and students. Linux is prevalent in today's marketplace, and students with Linux skills will expand their job and career opportunities worldwide.

Overview

Companies today are moving business critical solutions to the Linux operating system to reduce costs and increase flexibility, and they are looking for the same quality of service achieved with a proprietary UNIX operating system. Linux on IBM Power Systems (System p) provides the solution to this challenge with the self-healing and self-managing capabilities of IBM Power architecture.

Our Power Systems program includes a worldwide community of participating schools, IBM technical experts, customers, and Business Partners. There are benefits for everyone:

  • Professors can build relationships with industry, increase employment opportunities for students, and gain access to a wide variety of resources.
  • Students can advertise their talents in our Student Opportunity System resume database.
  • Employers can find schools that are teaching Power Systems and students with the skills they need.

Resources

We have a wide array of resources to help you learn and teach Linux, including no-charge training and professionally developed courseware that you can use in the classroom. But, the best news is that we offer Academic Initiative members remote virtual access to the Power Systems environment (so that you don't have to install and maintain the systems) or significant discounts if do you choose to lease or buy.
