Award amounts and requirements
The 2008 Unstructured Information Analytics Innovation Awards are valued in the range of US $10,000 to $30,000.
To qualify for these internationally competitive awards, the submitter must be a full-time faculty member at an accredited college or university that offers Baccalaureate, Master's or Doctoral programs.
Proposals requested
Proposals are sought in relevant areas including (but not limited to) the following:
- Analytics that advance the state of the art, and exploit the component modularization potentials of UIMA
- Community efforts toward bringing together advanced analytics into "stacks" of inter-operable, configurable sets of valuable functionality. This could include work that resulted in community convergence toward standard "type systems" that allowed more component interoperability
- Integration of UIMA with other open-source efforts (e.g. Apache Lucene or Apache Jackrabbit)
- Integration of UIMA with other emerging trends, such as Mashups, the Semantic Web, Automatic Question Answering, etc., that create a compelling new capability
- Connecting existing communities or existing NLP tools working in unstructured analytics to UIMA, through interoperability layers, porting of significant analysis algorithms to these frameworks.
- Supporting the on-going development of unstructured analytics, through contributions of tooling, annotated corpora, development of course materials etc. of interest to the community.
Preference will be given to proposals which foster community by creating working, measured (where applicable) artifacts which are donated to open-source efforts under commercially-friendly licenses such as the Apache License version 2.0.
