1. Get started with JavaScript
Get a foundational understanding of the JavaScript language. Learn the basics of working with JavaScript, and understand the libraries you can use in development. Then use the practice exercise to explore basic JavaScript concepts such as creating variables, using operators, defining and accessing arrays, writing conditional statements, structuring functions, and using loops.
2. Explore built-in objects and object-oriented JavaScript code
Take a look at the many built-in objects that JavaScript can use. Often confused with JavaScript objects, the browser and HTML Document Object Model (DOM) have objects with properties and, sometimes, methods of their own. Examine not only JavaScript objects, but also browser and HTML DOM objects. Then learn how you can use JavaScript to interact with them.
3. Modify the Document Object Model with the JavaScript language
Explore the JavaScript bindings of DOM and learn how to manipulate a web document for peak performance. Then use the practice exercise to learn more about the DOM, with questions about traversing the DOM, accessing nodes, retrieving and changing node values, and adding new nodes.
4. Get an introduction to Ajax
Examine Ajax programming and take a look at the core JavaScript code and popular library implementations. Begin with a brief history of the technology, then delve further into the technical aspects of Ajax interactions using core JavaScript coding as well as three popular JavaScript libraries.
