"an application style aimed at supporting the design, development, deployment, management and maintenance of distributed TP applications characterized by exceptionally demanding performance, scalability, availability, security, manageability and dependability requirements"
WebSphere Solutions Tailored to Client Needs
IBM WebSphere eXtreme Scale
An in-memory data grid that dynamically processes, partitions, replicates, and manages application data and business logic across hundreds of servers
IBM WebSphere ComputeGrid
Handles the entry, execution and management of Java batch jobs to enable simultaneous execution with online transaction processing
IBM WebSphere Real Time
Execute high-value Java business transactions in real-time for fast and predictable response
This article shows you how to use WebSphere® Extreme Scale as a separate in-memory data grid to store HTTP sessions. After describing existing software, the article shows how Extreme Scale addresses scalability challenges in a cost effective manner and simplifies the implementation of an Extreme Scale grid.
In this paper, we will illustrate how to optimize the performance of an application by leveraging WebSphere eXtreme Scale as the intermediary between the database and the application.
This article will provide an overview of the theory and implementation of the write-behind caching solution and JPA loader concepts. We will then review an example business case coupled with sample code to demonstrate how to deploy these features.

The eXtreme Scale development team has just released technical preview 3 of the WebSphere eXtreme Scale REST data service. The WebSphere eXtreme Scale REST data service is an interface to eXtreme Scale which implements the ADO.NET Data Services protocol, which is essentially a REST interface to a variety of different data sources.
The following features are new for technical preview 3:
JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) support - Allows clients to interact with the REST data service using both JSON and ATOMPub.
Full batch support - Clients can update and retrieve data from the REST data service using a single remote procedure call to the REST data service
Partition support for entity relationships - The REST data service can realize the full scalability of the eXtreme Scale grid by partitioning the data and using key relationships between entities to identify partitionable schema root entities.
WebSphere eXtreme Scale provides a robust distributed caching platform in the cloud allowing you to elastically scale your critical applications at predictable costs and with consistent high performance and availability.
You can try out all the new features of eXtreme Scale v7.0 on EC2 by just paying for the low cost of your Amazon Web Services usage for the specific instance type. The WebSphere eXtreme Scale v7.0 AMI is 32-bit and works with Small and High-CPU Medium EC2 instance sizes. To learn more about using this AMI, view the WebSphere eXtreme Scale 7.0 AMI catalog page.
