IBM's strategy for social business
IBM's strategy for social business includes two main components:
- A Social Business Framework with a modular set of capabilities for a unified work experience across products on the user interface, on mobile devices, and in the cloud.
- A Social Business Toolkit with a comprehensive set of APIs, open standards, documentation, samples, best practices, and an active community. Designed to support the framework for social business, the toolkit provides the services that developers can use to integrate social capabilities into their business applications.
As the framework is enhanced with more capabilities, the toolkit will evolve and expand in parallel with more APIs, samples, documentation, broader communities, and test environments for building and integrating applications.
Take your applications to a social level
To help you get started, IBM has created a learning path to guide you along the way to making your cloud-based or on-premise application more social.
Developing for the cloud
- Use the API explorer for IBM SmartCloud for Social Business to learn about and experiment with social APIs that are built exclusively for cloud applications. Make API calls, see responses, and access the documentation—all within a single interface.
- Take advantage of the sample developer application to help you learn how to integrate your application with IBM SmartCloud for Social Business. The application includes a sample web application for easy access to example code.
- Access test environments for developing and testing your application code. IBM SmartCloud for Social Business offers a production environment that requires a Business Partner demo account and a pre-release test environment that requires a nondisclosure agreement and a signed contract.
Developing for on-premise
- Use the API explorer for IBM Connections 3.0.1 to learn about and experiment with social APIs that are built for on-premise applications. Make API calls, see responses, and access the documentation—all within a single interface.
- Provision an instance of the IBM Collaboration QuickStart for Social Business on the IBM SmartCloud Enterprise—your instant access to IBM Lotus Domino, IBM Sametime, and IBM Connections in an integrated, data-filled environment.
