Before you start

In this tutorial you learn about the specific database tools available with IBM Rational Data Architect.

About this tutorial

This tutorial guides you through the steps to begin database development using Rational Data Architect. You will learn how to create, edit, deploy, and debug SQL stored procedures. This tutorial also covers how to share a project in CVS. Combined with Rational Data Architect's data modeling and integration design capabilities, the database development functions allow you to model, build, test, and deploy DB2 databases all within a single integrated tool.

System requirements

This tutorial is intended as a virtual hands on experience. Or, you can choose to launch Rational Data Architect on your machine and follow along with the tutorial, connecting to your own data source as you go through each step.

If you do not already have it, download a trial version of IBM Rational Data Architect 6.1.

To complete the steps in this tutorial you need to:

  • Install DB2 8.2 client.
  • Install Rational Data Architect 6.1.
  • Add a repository for team development in the CVS repository view (optional).
  • Launch Rational Data Architect. Rational Data Architect opens by default in the Data perspective.
