Before you start

Learn what to expect from this tutorial, and how to get the most out of it.

About this tutorial

This tutorial, for IBM Rational Method Composer and IBM Rational Team Concert users, will teach you how to shell-share IBM Rational Method Composer in an IBM Rational Team Concert client, and how to upload Rational Method Composer-generated processes templates to the Jazz Team Server using a new jazz.net incubator.

Objectives

Upon completion of this tutorial, you will:

  • Know how to use a new jazz.net incubator to generate process templates and export Rational Method Composer processes to Rational Team Concert.
  • Understand the value of using Rational Method Composer to document your process for using Rational Team Concert.
  • Know how to use Rational Method Composer to model your process and how it maps to Rational Team Concert usage situations.

Prerequisites

For this tutorial we assume that you have just some basic working knowledge of Rational Method Composer and Rational Team Concert. We also assume that you know how to install, set-up, and start these environments. We will show you the basic steps for using Rational Method Composer to create a method plug-in, method configuration, and a delivery process so you can document the way you want to work with your team using Rational Team Concert. We assume that you know how to create a Project Area with Rational Team Concert as well as how to make changes to your process specification. Hence, if you are a Rational Team Concert user looking for better ways to document and communicate your team's development process, this is the tutorial for you.

System requirements

For the steps described in the following sections we assume that you already

  1. have a running Jazz Team Server available to you for which you know the address details for access, and that you have a user account which has a Developer license as well as a JazzAdmins permission;
  2. have the IBM Rational Team Concert Client 1.0.1 installed on your machine;
  3. have IBM Rational Method Composer 7.5ifix1 installed on your machine and either have valid trial license or have the product fully activated. (You activate your Rational Method Composer installation by using an activation kit after the installation provided to you with your purchase. This requirement of a valid trial or product license is essential, because the code that you download for this tutorial will check for the license and not work if Rational Method Composer 7.5 is not installed and activated on your system.)
