Summary
Rational Data Architect has enhanced and extended the capabilities of WebSphere Information Integrator to introduce a data modeling tool that can help you create and maintain databases and enterprise data models from heterogeneous data sources of any kind. With Data Architect, you can create new models or connect to existing data sources and automatically generate models from their schemas. Data Architect's intelligent mapping technology can discover how data is related between heterogeneous databases, letting you quickly design a new federated database.
In this tutorial you learned how to create a new logical data model and transform it to a physical data model that you can build on and eventually deploy to a database of your choice. You discovered two different kinds of data sources and browsed through their remote tables using embedded capabilities of WebSphere Information Integrator. You then reversed-engineered those remote databases to physical data models. You used the mapping and discovery capabilities to map the extracted physical models to the new data model and generate a view that defined those remote databases in terms of the new model. Finally, you deployed the generated view to a database and used it to access integrated data across the two databases in terms of the new model.
