Rational Developer Network moves to IBM developerWorks
Technical content and services formerly available to you at the Rational Developer Network can now be found in the Rational area of IBM developerWorks, the Web portal for the IBM developer community. The systems and applications that hosted the Rational Developer Network were moved to IBM developerWorks at www.ibm.com/developerworks on April 30, 2004, and the former locations will no longer be available to you.
Instead, Rational customers can reach this new area-without registration or login-at the Rational domain of developerWorks, at http://www-136.ibm.com/developerworks/rational, which is available to the software development community at large. There, you'll have access to the following:
- The same Web-based training previously found on RDN. Registration and, in most cases, an access code are required to use this training.
- New versions of all RDN discussion forums and Rational user groups as well as all IBM developer-related discussion forums, giving you access to the expertise of a technical community numbering in the millions. Registration required.
- Articles, sample applications, reusable assets, product plug-ins, and other technical materials vital to the Rational user experience; available to all without registration or login. IMPORTANT NOTE: The RDN editorial team will complete the work of republishing articles and other content from RDN to the Rational developerWorks area by the middle of 2004. Much of the content has already been moved to the IBM developerWorks site to ensure you have a valuable experience. But, if at first you don't find what you were used to seeing on RDN, write to the RDN editors at editor@us.ibm.com.
- Information and a vast range of technical materials and services to help you apply the entire IBM software development platform offering.
No login required for IBM developerWorks
You'll be able to use the technical resources at developerWorks -- including the Rational area-without registration or login. IBM Rational developerWorks content is freely available to the worldwide software development community, giving you free access to all materials about IBM developer technologies and products and the vast IBM developer community.
Go directly to the Rational community Home page on developerWorks at http://www-136.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/community.
Some of the new versions of our services require registration and/or account numbers, just as they did on RDN.
Web-based training courses. Just as you did on RDN, you will have to register for all Rational Web-based training courses in their new home within developerWorks. The Getting Started courses are available for free. As they were on RDN, most of the Rational Web-based courses require payment and an access code before you can take them.
If you purchased Rational Web-based training on RDN or received access to them through a special promotion, the access code you used to enroll for your courses will work in the new system.
If you wish to purchase access to Rational Web-based courses on developerWorks, please contact the Rational sales office or representative nearest you.

For more information on how to purchase and access Rational Web-based training on developerWorks, please go to the Rational training page on developerWorks.
Rational discussion forums/user groups. The IBM developerWorks discussion forums all require you to set up a unique username and password before you use them. No payment or special account number is required.
Your RDN username and password will likely work at the new forum location. In some cases, however, a developerWorks member may already have selected your username and you will have to choose another.
For more information on registering for Rational discussion forums at their new location, please visit the main Rational discussion page on developerWorks.
New look and feel: organization and user interface
When you visit the new home of Rational developer content and services, you will immediately notice that the Web pages that host them are organized, and look and behave, somewhat differently than RDN.
The RDN team, in collaboration with the developerWorks team, has built the Rational area of developerWorks with two important requirements in mind:
- Your current experience as an RDN user and your need to find the same materials you used on RDN within their new home on IBM developerWorks
- The need to provide a consistent experience for the many different developerWorks users, one that provides a similar and predictable experience for a great amount of material covering a variety of subjects and technologies
The product pages within the Rational area of developerWorks are organized similarly to the knowledge centers you grew accustomed to using on RDN. There are crucial differences, however, differences we have introduced to help you become familiar with the new site. We want you to find the content you rely on to be successful with Rational tools. We also want to help you benefit from the many thousands of articles, tutorials, code samples, and other technical resources that can help you learn about the IBM software development platform and other IBM developer tools and technologies.
Please explore the new user interface thoroughly and let us know what you think. Your feedback about what works and what doesn't helps us to improve the developerWorks experience. Please send an e-mail to editor@us.ibm.com if you have problems finding something, if you have a question or suggestion. And, if you like what you see, your positive feedback will confirm to us that developerWorks has met your needs.
As we have said several times already, if you encounter any difficulties or have any feedback for us-whether it is positive or negative, our staff is available to help you through this transition. Send us an email at editor@us.ibm.com if you need help. We will be sure to answer you, and we will factor your ideas into the future evolution of developerWorks.
