Large models, just like large bodies of code, deteriorate over time. The impact of making many changes to a model will, eventually, render it harder to change and understand. By regularly analysing model metrics, it is possible to maintain the model in a good state and ensure that the model has a consistent and well-formed structure. This article describes how to use the Model Metrics Analysis view in IBM® Rational® Software Modeler, Rational Software Architect, or Rational Systems Developer to analyse models and discover potential problem areas, such as classes with too many dependencies or dependents.
