About this course

Essentials of IBM® Rational® Software Architect: Getting Started is the first of nine web-based courses dealing with IBM Rational Software Architect software application. This series of web-based courses is identical to the classroom series: Essentials of Rational Software Architect.

In this course

Essentials of IBM Rational Software Architect help designers and developers get started with using IBM Rational Software Architect. Students gain a hands-on experience with IBM Rational Software Architect as they are introduced to a number of features, supporting concepts, and integration with other tools. Students learn the basics of model templates and using the UML diagram types that IBM Rational Software Architect supports.

Audience

Architects and development leads who design enterprise applications and who:

  • Apply best practices such as UML modeling, and application analysis.
  • Apply design patterns in their system design.
  • Use UML to create design, implementation, and deployment views of J2EE solutions.
  • Work as part of a team of architects and developers.


Objectives

  • Describe the modeling perspective and the IBM Rational Software Architect views

  • Create and organize projects and models in IBM Rational Software Architect to begin designing a J2EE application

  • Introduce diagrams and models supported by IBM Rational Software Architect

  • Create and modify class, activity, sequence, topic, and browse diagrams

Prerequisites

It is recommended that the student take one of the following courses or an equivalent:

Web-based training:

  • DEV275: Essentials of Visual Modeling (ILT) or the DEV11x: Principles of Modeling (WBT) series.
  • Although this course introduces some UML concepts and notation - students will need equivalent experience or training, such as DEV475: Mastering Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Using UML.

  • OS: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP 2, SP3, SP4, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation SP 6a +SRP, Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP 1, SP 2
  • Machine Speed: 56K modem (assuming connectivity between 32-50Kbps)
  • Display Properties: High color, minimum resolution of 1024x768
  • Browser: Internet Explorer browser Version 6.0 or later, Netscape Navigator browser Version 7.0 or later, Mozilla browser Version 1.1 or later, FireFox 1.0.7 browser
