This new tool is an important part of effective IT lifecycle management. It identifies the root cause of poor performance observed during a test by round-trip response time decomposition.

Introduction

This tool identifies the root cause of poor performance observed during a test by round-trip response time decomposition. The response time is broken down into the times spent within each component in the system under test enabled by the included Tivoli ARM data collector. An updated Data Collection Infrastructure (DCI) version has been posted to run with Rational Performance Tester v6.1.2.

The 6.1.2 release of IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit adds support for IBM Tivoli Composite Application Management for WebSphere (ITCAM WebSphere) and IBM Tivoli Composite Application Management for Response Time Tracking (ITCAM RTT) and collecting or importing resource monitoring data through an IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) server.

Note: The IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit v7.0 is now fully integrated with IBM Rational Performance Tester v7.0! We've heard your suggestions and have acted on them. We've simplified the installation procedure and added numerous features for automating load and performance testing of server-based software applications. Specifically, we've added:

  • Resource monitoring support for monitoring system resources using Windows Performance Monitor, Linux/UNIX Rstatd, and the IBM Tivoli Monitoring products. In addition, the Windows Performance Monitor and Linux/UNIX Rstatd monitors are purely agentless!
  • Response time breakdown for application monitoring and problem analysis to isolate problems in the server environment is now configured on-the-fly when a load test or schedule is executed! In addition, there are new user interface tools to help identify the source of the application problem.

NEW: Post feedback about your use of the toolkit and pose questions directly to the product team who developed the toolkit. They want to hear from you. Join the discussion now!

Prerequisites

You must have IBM Rational Performance Tester v6.1.2 and the associated iFix (6.1.2.001) installed before using this toolkit.

Installation instructions

For detailed installation instructions, access the installation guide from the downloads table below.

Download instructions

If upgrading from IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit (IPOT) Workbench v6.0:

  1. Download and install IPOT Workbench v6.1.2 and the IPOT v6.1.2.001 interim fix using the Rational Product Updater. Note: Optionally, you can download and install the IPOT v6.1.2 and its associated iFix (6.1.2.001) from the table below. Please see the installation guide in the downloads table for detailed instructions.
  2. Download and install IPOT Data Collection Infrastructure (DCI) v6.1.2 from the table below.
  3. To verify the integrity of these downloads, download and run the MD5 File Checksums from the table below.

If you have not previously installed IPOT:

  1. Download and install IPOT Workbench v6.0 from the table below.
  3. Download and install IPOT Data Collection Infrastructure (DCI) v6.1.2 from the table below.
  4. To verify the integrity of these downloads, download and run the MD5 File Checksums from the table below.
